Why I built it
It started with a problem in my own atelier. I was tired of paying monthly fees for software and having no control over my own data, and nothing I found ticked all the boxes. I wanted a tool that understood a pelt can be partially used, a hide may be bought by the square foot, one piece of material can become several different products, and the real cost of something includes far more than the obvious materials.
I had a long career in software before I opened my atelier, so I built the tool I wanted. I use it every day to run my whole business — and now I'm offering it to other makers and to the suppliers who serve them.

Maker Edition
Know what something really costs to make before you decide what to charge for it.
- Receive a whole shipment at once. Receiving 50 pelts creates 50 records, each with its own serial number you can follow from purchase, through the cut sheet, to the finished piece.
- Whole pelts or by the square foot. Track partially used pelts and hides bought by area, alongside leather, lining, hardware and findings.
- The Cookbook. Build repeatable product recipes from pelts, materials, labor and overhead. Set your labor rate and margins, and see the cost, suggested retail and wholesale price for every product.
- Jobs from real inventory. Pull the actual pelts you use — Hide & Ledger suggests the smallest one with enough material, so you don't cut into your best hide for a small job. Cost and margin reflect what really happened.
- Cut sheets, certificates and care cards. Print a job traveler for the bench, and a Certificate of Authenticity listing the furs used, sourcing statement, CITES number where required, and your personal message.
- Honest numbers. Sales, gifts, write-offs, finished stock and work in progress are always shown separately, so a generous month never looks like a failing business.
- Build planner and calendar show what's most profitable to make from the stock you have, and when everything is due.
Supplier Edition
Every pelt you buy and every pelt you sell, with its paperwork attached.
- Receive by lot. Every pelt gets its own ID, and the whole shipment shares a lot number. Record CITES tags and origin where they're required.
- A real price list by species, size and grade, showing stock available, average cost and your margin at each price.
- Sales orders from quote to paid. Quick-fill "10 raccoon, XL, grade A" from your oldest stock first, or pick specific pelts. Pelts are reserved the moment they're quoted, so nothing is ever sold twice.
- Packing slips and invoices list every pelt with its ID, lot, origin and CITES tag, with your logo and return address.
- Know where you stand: paid revenue, money you're owed, open orders, and stock value at cost and at list price.
- Reports by customer and species, plus a complete sales record for tax time.
No subscription. No account. No cloud. On purpose.
- You own it. Pay once and use it for as long as you like. There's nothing to renew.
- Your data stays yours. Everything is stored on your own computer — never on my server or anyone else's. Your supplier prices, margins and customers are private.
- It works offline — in the workshop, at a show, or at an auction barn with no signal.
- No integrations to break. Instead, every record exports to CSV for Excel, Google Sheets or your accountant.
- Safe, automatic backups. Download a complete backup any time, or (in Chrome or Edge) connect Hide & Ledger to a file in OneDrive, Dropbox or iCloud and every change is saved and backed up automatically. If the connection ever drops, it tells you loudly — nothing is lost quietly.

Getting started is simple: put the program folder somewhere permanent, put the starter data file somewhere backed up (such as OneDrive), open the program in Chrome or Edge, and enter your license key.
Your license
Each purchase is a single-shop license for one business, for the edition and major version you buy. Your shop name appears in the app and on everything you print. Future major versions with new features may be offered as paid upgrades — you're never required to upgrade, and your version keeps working.
Good to know
- Hide & Ledger is a single-user application for a desktop or laptop computer (Windows, Mac or Chromebook). It isn't a cloud-based, multi-user system.
- Chrome or Edge is recommended; automatic saving to a file needs one of them.
- Help is built into every screen, and the Help & Support button in the app reaches me directly. Have an idea? The Suggest an Improvement button sends it straight to me — your input shapes what comes next.
